Station 11 on HBO is great. Basically is follows a few folks shortly before and decades after a virus with a 99.99 mortality rate ravages the planet... go.
I’m also going to just leave this here, from MTG one of the Covid minimalists, ripping into military reps after the balloon incidents over the last week, “You sat by and allowed this Chinese spy balloon that could have contained a bioweapon, like COVID, it could have contained a nuclear bomb an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack, or hypersonic missiles...”
I just spent time with a couple from Utah who were staying with us. I asked them what their plans were in the next few years for the Great Salt Lake drying up.
They had no idea what I was talking about.
Who can blame them? The news almost never mentions the very solid science showing the lake has less than 5 years left before it is completely dry.
I was about to go into the whole thing with them but instead I just let it go…
“Make sure you look into it, especially if you’re ever thinking of buying a house in Utah.” was all I said. And then we talked about how they were getting on with our dog Timothy.
This is so good, Jessica. So you’re saying it’s ok if I spend time learning about mosses and lichens instead of figuring out how to save the world? I mean, I would if I could, but I’m into nonviolence, and how else can you fix a world run by the criminal classes? I can’t hope for them to take each other out, ‘cause they’ll be taking us with them.
I saw the arrest of the journalist. I think we are all well on our own now. No one will be offering sound plans or paths forward. It will be much like stations 11. Small groups trying to figure it out. Funny. 2020 I really thought the pandemic was going to quickly wrap up. My job would hold and my plans would proceed. I might even thrive. Now. Now. Now. I think try and focus inwards. Survive small. Stay a bit insulated. Keep
Those close who are good. Shed everything else. Bare and pleasant minimums. Fingers crossed.
Was wondering about you. Did you see, in the news, about how farmers have too many eggs but need the FDA to waive a regulation to allow them to sell them. Taking $1.50-2.00 of a dozen eggs would still be higher than the $1.49 from this year, but that and $30 will get you a three-topping pizza and salad on Super Bowl Sunday.
I have been thinking about setting up a corner of our (unfinished old) basement as an emergency place -- food and drinking water, waste container, etc., taped off plastic walls. It seems a bit crazy, but is it?
I was worrying something happened to you. Great that You were able to take some time off, we all need it, and great article as always.
By the way I propose to create a prepper group(Discord or Telegram) with OK Doomer subscribers.
The problem with most prepper groups as You have said perfectly in other articles, is most of them are nuts. I recently joined one in Telegram and they are your typical Christian/Catholic which are of course Anti-LGBT, anti-climate, believe in HAARP and all of those crazy conspiracy theories.

The irony is palpable.

Another great piece Jessica.
We have to take care of ourselves.

Great to know you were just taking some time off. Everyone needs it. That obviously includes doomers, more so than most. As usual, a terrific essay. 👍

(Hope the kid is feeling better)
I read the history of the 1918 flu, and it was horrific.
I'm enjoying some simple pleasures and not planning for a long retirement.
This is brilliant. 🖤🖤

Thank you Jessica🙏
My sentiments exactly. I prefer 'survivors'. Survivors know how to have fun.
Scott Peck often talked of the Banalisty of Evil.
My mom had an old saying: The Devil is in the Details.
Yes - even the baddest of baddies are ultimately boring in their banality.
Thanks for another thoughtful reflection.
No doubt.
Thank you, I needed to read this 🙏🏼
